Creating a Feeding Plan
A feeding plan is individual per horse and defines what the horse should eat, in what quantities, and at what times of day.
Step 1: Select Horse
- Go to Feeding → Plans
- Click New plan
- Select the horse from the dropdown
Each horse can have one active feeding plan at a time. If a plan already exists for the horse, you’ll see an option to either edit the existing plan or create a new one (which archives the old one).
Step 2: Add Feeding Times
A feeding plan is divided into feeding times throughout the day. Common times are:
- Morning (e.g. 07:00)
- Midday (e.g. 12:00)
- Evening (e.g. 17:00)
- Night (e.g. 22:00)
Click Add feeding time and enter a time or choose a preset name.
Step 3: Add Products and Quantities
For each feeding time you select which products the horse should receive and in what quantities:
- Click Add product within a feeding time
- Search for and select a product from the database
- Enter the amount in kilograms (e.g.
0.5for 500 grams,3for 3 kg) - Repeat for all products at that feeding time
The system automatically calculates total nutrition for the day based on the entered quantities and the products’ nutritional values (if they have been entered).
Step 4: Save and Activate
Click Save plan to save the draft. Click Activate to start using the plan in the daily feeding schedule.
The Feeding Schedule
Under Feeding → Schedule you see a daily overview of what should be fed and who is responsible.
The view shows:
- Horses sorted by stable or group
- Which feeding times (morning/midday/evening) are planned
- Whether the feeding has been logged (✓) or not
You can filter the view by:
- Day/week/month
- Group or individual horse
- Responsible person
Logging Feeding
Stable members log feeding via My tasks on the dashboard or directly in the feeding schedule.
Confirming a Completed Feeding
- Go to Feeding → Schedule (or My tasks)
- Find the current feeding time (e.g. “Evening – Barn A”)
- Click Mark as completed
- Review the list of horses and their feed rations
- If everything is correct, click Confirm
Reporting a Deviation
If a horse hasn’t eaten its feed, if you gave a different quantity, or if you observed something unusual:
- Click Report deviation at the feeding time
- Select the horse and describe the deviation
- Click Save deviation
Deviations appear in the report and can be used to follow up on a horse’s health and appetite.
Nutritional Coverage Report
Under Feeding → Reports you can see:
Coverage Report
Shows what percentage of the horse’s estimated nutritional needs are covered by the current feeding plan. Requirements are calculated based on:
- Horse’s weight (if entered in the horse profile)
- Activity level (set in the feeding plan: Rest, Light work, Medium work, Hard work)
A green indicator shows that coverage is sufficient; yellow/red signals a deficiency.
Dietary Recommendations
The system can provide basic dietary recommendations based on the horse’s profile and current plan. These are guidelines only – always consult a veterinarian or equine nutritionist for specific health issues.
Feeding Log
All logged feeding history is saved and can be exported as CSV for veterinary visits or stable audits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I copy a feeding plan from one horse to another? Yes. Open an existing plan, click Copy plan, and select which horse to copy it to. You can then adjust quantities in the copy.
What if a horse is ill and shouldn’t have its regular feed? You can temporarily deactivate a plan or create a temporary plan for a set number of days. The original plan automatically reactivates when the temporary period ends.
Can I set up reminders for feeding times? Yes. Under Settings → Notifications you can configure reminders per feeding time. Choose whether you want reminders 15, 30, or 60 minutes before the planned time.
How does the system handle multiple horses that eat the same thing? Create a plan per horse, but you can easily copy the template. The system handles each horse individually, making it possible to log and track each horse’s consumption separately.
