Buying Out of Stable Duties
Availability: Available from the Essentials plan (€9/month).
In EquiDuty, every active horse counts as a share of stable work. A horse owner with three horses is expected to contribute three times as much as an owner with one horse. If an owner doesn’t want to or can’t participate in the stable duty rotation, they can buy out one or more horses.
What is a share?
Every horse boarded at the stable gives its responsible person (the owner or a designated work-responsible person) a share in the work distribution.
- A horse owner with 3 horses has 3 shares and is expected to contribute 3/N of total work (N = total shares in the stable).
- If that person buys out 1 horse, they have 2 active shares and are expected to contribute 2/N.
- If all horses are bought out, the person has 0 active shares and is excluded entirely from the selection process.
How to buy out
Step 1: Admin creates a buyout service
An administrator must first create a priced service of the “work buyout” type:
- Go to Settings → Prices & Services
- Click New service
- Set category to Work buyout
- Enter a price (e.g. 500 SEK/month per horse)
- Save
Step 2: Link the service to a horse
Once the buyout service exists, an admin (or the owner, if they have permission) can activate it for a specific horse:
- Open the horse profile
- Go to the Services tab
- Click Add service
- Select the work buyout service
- Enter a start date (and optionally an end date)
- Save
The buyout activates automatically from the start date.
Effect on the selection process
| Situation | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 of 3 horses bought out | Quota reduced to 2/3 of normal |
| 2 of 3 horses bought out | Quota reduced to 1/3 of normal |
| All horses bought out | Person excluded entirely from selection process |
Effect on fairness distribution
In the fairness distribution view (under Staffing → Distribution), you can see:
- Active shares – how many horses are not bought out
- Expected points – the calculated fair share of total points based on active shares
- Deviation – the difference between actual and expected points
A person with bought-out horses has lower expected points, reflecting their reduced work obligation.
Ending a buyout
To end a buyout:
- Open the horse profile → Services
- Find the work buyout service
- Choose End at period end (recommended) or End immediately
From the moment the buyout ends, the horse counts as an active share again.
